Paddington 2 Review

Here’s my Paddington 2 review which is now showing and featuring the voice of actor Xian Lim as Paddington Bear.

For this Paddington 2 review, we have to thank / give credit to Captive Cinema.

Paddington Bear returns for this sequel which pits him against a crime caper AND Hugh Grant.

The film’s pretty straightforward with a good amount of laughs here and there as well as an appearance by the 12th doctor himself, Peter Capaldi.

Picture shows: Peter Capaldi as The Doctor

Bad news though, Whovians, he’s more of a bad guy here. Would have been a great thing if he was a good character.

Going back to this Paddington 2 review, I underestimated the movie once more. It’s got a lot of great moments that’s heartwarming at best. Who knew that i would get a bit teary eyed with a bear from Peru who just wanted to send an old pop-up book to his elder grandmother back home? I sure as hell didn’t.

There’s also the mystery that Paddington’s adopted family, the Browns, are trying to solve and clear Paddington Bear’s name. Comedy ensues but not that much. It was a set piece for the film and that was fun.

Notables for this film are Hugh Grant, who made for a decent villain named Phoenix Bucchanon. A bit flamboyant and crazy, I thought that he had an interesting arc for the entire film. My only gripe was that the “Notting Hill” actor had a few scenes where he just “phoned it in”.  Tsk.

Brendan Gleeson’s also in it as he plays Nuckles McGinnty. I’m quite surprised that he did a good guy character. He’s pretty interesting in the sense that he was actually physically imposing as this big bruiser in the flick.

While the use of Xian Lim as the voice actor is still a mystery (we could have still used Ben Whishaw) your mind will forget that the Kapamilya actor was doing the voice over for the cuddly and positive bear. He’s OK in my book, for this movie. The only gripe, is between this and his next movie, Sin Island, there’s a HUGE paradigm shift. LOL.

Lastly, the movie as a whole is something worthwhile. Entertaining and great. Pretty interesting too.

VERDICT: 4/5
