Another Look at Benicio Del Toro as DJ in The Last Jedi
Empire shares a new image of Benicio Del Toro as DJ in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The character looks so different from his previous appearance in a sci-fi movie, namely his role as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy. This time though he looks like either a rebellious First Order officer or a really Han Solo-ish pirate.
Del Toro describes his character as such:
This character could come straight out of a Bob Dylan or Tom Waites song, or even a Dostoyevsky novel. He’s like something out of Dickens; there have been characters like him in all kinds of literature.
He adds that he considers himself as a ‘slicer’
He’s like a knife: if you grab him by the blade, he’ll cut you. If you grab him by the handle, he can be very, very useful.
It reads like that he’s also a grey character, the one who benefits a lot from the war (in the star) between the Resistance and the First Order. John Boyega, who plays Finn, also states that he wouldn’t trust Del Toro’s DJ with his life and that’s with a good reason.
