Was this the Green Lantern Who Appeared in Justice League?

Ever wondered who the Green Lantern who made an appearance in 2017’s Justice League was? It looks like a few eagle eyed fans have already figured that question out.

Before we discuss who this Lantern is some spoiler alerts are in order…

Also some context.

In the “History Lesson” part of Justice League, we learn that Steppenwolf has already tried to conquer Earth with the help of the three Mother Boxes in Earth. It took the combined efforts of the Amazons, Atlanteans and the various tribes of Earth plus a Green Lantern and three old gods (Zeus, Ares and Artemis) to stop their plans for global domination.

Too bad for the Green Lantern, he died at the hands of Steppenwolf early on in the fight. But we still don’t know who or what it was.

Which goes back today’s main topic – who was the Green Lantern in Justice League?

Fans have identified the character as deceased Green Lantern Yalan Gur.

Who was Gur? He appeared in Green Lantern # 19 (1991) in a flashback during a conversation between Hal Jordan and the other members of the Green Lantern Corps. He was also a former GL for space sector 2814, where Earth is located.

The character also has ties to the Golden Age Lantern Alan Scott who kinda is connected to the Green Lantern Corps but has no weakness to the yellow impurity aka the color yellow.

It was also his weakness to wood that Scott received when he became the makeshift Green Lantern power battery. That’s because he lost the weakness to yellow thanks to the Guardians. This corrupted the guy which led to the Guardians of the Universe to put him down.

While nobody from DC’s camp has confirmed this bit of information, the history kind of makes sense. He was the GL on duty 2000 years in the past making him very qualified to be the Lantern that joined the fight against Steppenwolf.
