‘Kubo’ Director to Helm Transformers Spin-off Movie Starring Bumblebee

Bumblebee will be getting his own time in the spotlight just after the release of the current Transformers movie, Transformers: The Last Knight.

And how do we know that the project is even pushing through? The studio recently announced the director for the unnamed solo Bumblebee movie; and its none other than Travis Knight who also directed wonderful post-moedern animated flicks like Paranorman and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Oh and he’s also the CEO and president of LAIKA, the same studio that produced the two movies I mentioned above plus “The Boxtrolls”.

During his appearance for this year’s Toy Fair, Hasbro’s Tom Warner had pretty much confirmed that we’ll be having that solo Bumblebee movie via his statement:

This summer we worked closely with a talented team of A-list screenwriters to map out the future of the Transformers cinematic universe, and as Brian announced earlier, things kick off in a major way in 2017 with the release of Transformers 5 in June. And we’re working on a spin-off movie centered around Bumblebee for 2018 and the next chapter for 2019.

The solo Bumblebee movie is slated for release June 8, 2017. Meanwhile catch B together with the other Autobots in Transforemrs the Last Knight which will be shown this year.
