Vivo Mobile is pushing the boundaries of high quality smartphones for the budget-conscious Pinoys and they may have outdone themselves with the new Vivo Y55. Our contributor Nico Guarte of NicDroid covered the event.

Its been awhile since they released the Vivo V3 Max and they’re already striking while the iron is hot with the Vivo Y55; which we consider the younger brother of the V3 Max.

The Y55 comes out of the box with a 5.2 inch screen with 1280×720 pixel display. Making streaming movies and video online feel like you’re watching it on a bigger screen. It operates with a 1.4Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor (note its Octacore). They’ve matched the processor “power” with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage; of course they didn’t leave out the expanded port for extra storage space.

Maintaining their selfie game, this smartphone features an 8 megapixel camera that shoots clear photos even in low light conditions. The back camera can also shoot High-def videos much like the V3 Max. Selfies are tricky though with the Y55. It comes with a  5 MP front camera that automatically gives a cap on the quality. However it does make do with the picture processing power that the Y55

Other features that come along with the Vivo Y55 are the Smart Screen Flash which basically puts a “flash” on your selfies, using the LED screen. No more horrible photos in dim and indoor settings. Vivo also put in their own OS for this budget-friendly smartphone. That’s right that Funtouch OS returns, this time its the Funtouch OS 2.6. No HUGE changes for the OS as they jumped from the V3 Max to the Y55.

Best of all, if you’ve not read the title for this tech post, the Vivo Y55 retails for Php 7,990.
