Pacific Rim: Maelstrom Adds Cailee Spaeny as Female Lead
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom announces a new addition to the growing cast in the form of Cailee Spaeny to star opposite John Boyega.
Variety reports that the actress and pop-star will be playing the female lead in the sequel to Guillermo Del Torro’s 2013 monster/mecha film Pacific Rim.
Details for the sequel are currently tightly wrapped so its hard to find out what her character’s name is and how she would interact with John Boyega’s unnamed character. We do know however that she would be the lead, taking over that position from Rinko Kikuchi’s Mako Mori from the first movie.
The first Pacific Rim movie starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and Rinko Kikuchi and was released 2013. It made $410 million in global box office while making “a decent” revenue Stateside.
As for Spaeny, she has to be jumping for joy considering that this is a HUGE break for her after her only appearance in the indie film “Counting to 1,000”.
Pacific Rim 2 aka Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight with production scheduled to start in November in Australia and some parts of China.
