5 Things You Should See or Experience at Nexcon 3
Nexcon 3 is just around the corner and I’ve decided to give you a quick guide into what you MUST check out or patiently wait for during the 2 day event happening at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay.
This is their third year as a convention and they’ve certainly made a reputation for themselves in those three years. They always manage to come up with some of the fresher concepts for their program and for that I love the organizers.
Now on to the more pressing stuff. There’s just so much stuff that’ll happen in the convention that without a plan you’d probably fumble around and by the end of the day you’ve accomplished nothing. Hopefully this list can help you by at least suggesting some things in Nexcon 3 that you can do or watch out for.
GMA 7’s “fantaserye” is returning to prime time and Nexcon 3 will play a special role for that. Director MARK REYES and lead artist NOEL FLORES will be doing a special Encantadia panel to talk about this new project which they lovingly refer to as a “requel”. Expect several Encantadia cosplayers during this event. Pretty sure one of our contributors will armed for war here.
2. Mind Museum’s Robots Rockets & Ray Guns
If you’ve ever wondered if this generation’s scientists and techies can create a TARDIS or if we’re this close to getting an authentic HOVERBOARD (not that garbage they try to pass off as a hoverboard) then this is a panel you must attend. Big brains will be there and its something worth sitting down and listening to.
3. GEEK CELEBRITIES FROM ALL OVER
Here’s a list of actual people I am friends with on Facebook, that I look up to and will be attending Nexcon 3.
Also if you must know Mr. Dimacali has an actual effing “verified“/ check sign on his Facebook account. That’s how hardcore this guy is.
But these ‘senpais’ are people I truly respect in this little community of ours and when you attend Nexcon and hear them talk about their passions, I’m pretty sure they will be your idols too.
Other guests in the list include:
DIWA DE LEON
JAY MATA (Ludo)
IVAN GUERRERO (Filbar’s)
As I mentioned earlier, NEXCON has a unique element that only a few conventions have. They cater to Western fandoms. Or at least the fans of western stuff like LOTR, Pirates of the Caribbean to characters from Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Star Wars.
This year, the NEXCON 3 Organizers have the Cosplay Rumble and a new additional mechanic, the Nexcon Masquerade.
5. Casper Van Dien
NEXCON 3 is top-billed by international guest CASPER VAN DIEN, star of the science fiction movie Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers was one of the most talked-about films of 1997 and maintains one of the largest cult followings in film history. He was also in Tim Burton’s critically acclaimed film Sleepy Hollow as Brom Bones. He was the 20th Tarzan and the only one to ever film in Africa and ride an African elephant in the Warner Bros. film Tarzan and the Lost City. Most recently, he just finished shooting the action thriller Showdown in Manila, co-starring Iza Calzado and directed by Mark Dacascos.
