Avengers Standoff – Assault on Pleasant Hill # 1 Spoilers
To commemorate the return of the site, here are spoilers for Avengers Standoff – Assault on Pleasant Hill # 1 by Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz.
Have to say its good to be back doing spoiler posts. Anyway this cross over to various Avengers titles and its going to be a bit tedious too because right after this Marvel readers would have to go through Civil War II. Main characters here are Captain America, Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier and the Steve Rogers.
Oh and Steve Rogers will be getting back his “powers” and will star in a new Captain America book with his triangular shield in hand.
Now on to the spoilers.
The book starts with Bucky raiding a Hellicarrier and taking some secret SHIELD files. This attack is reported to Steve Rogers who now acts as SHIELD’s civilian liaison. Oh and he does this reminiscing thing about Bucky who’s pretty much absent during Secret War and was off in space as the new “Man on the Wall” replacing Nick Fury.
Around the same time the new Captain America, Sam Wilson aka The Falcon foils an attack by someone calling himself the “Green Skull”
Steve gets a clue from the crime scene and already knows where to go next. He catches Bucky cooking (a yaoi fantasy apparently)…
… while Sam gets a summons from his mysterious hacker friend “The Whisperer” who turns out to be…
The narrative switches between two conversations with Bucky telling Steve that the cosmic cube shards were never taken care off but was rather used elsewhere. He plans to destroy that because it could become a threat to the world. Rick Jones does the same and the course is set for these three Captain America characters.
Bucky ports out, Maria Hill shows up to apprehend him. In New York SHIELD sends their best men to arrest “The Whisperer” but Sam helps him escape. Rogers demands answers from Hill and he gets taken to “Pleasant Hill”, where they store supervillains and give them a new look and new personalities.
Hill also confirms that ‘Pleasant Hill’ is their latest prison that was built using the missing Cosmic Cube shards aka Kobik project.
Hill also introduces Cap and the readers to Kobik, the cosmic cube offspring that identified itself as a human child and Dr. Eric Selvig.
Eric Selvig as in the guy in Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the two Thor movies? They’ve imported him to the Marvel Universe as well?
Anyway unknown to SHIELD (because they’re stupid) some of the villains have managed to break free from their hypnosis and has teamed-up with Baron Zemo and you know who they picked to be part of the team?
Yeah, it definitely looks like the Thunderbolts are back in business. Zemo enacts his plan starting with having a very-much alive Nitro blow up City Hall.
The explosion releases the prisoners from their trance and they promptly kill or maim the SHIELD agents working in the area.Then Zemo amasses his forces to look for Rogers and Hill.
So that’s how this is going to be. A comicbook version of Die Hard and its not even Christmas. Also I can see what happens from a mile away and I can’t wait to say “called it”.
