Sid and Aya Not a Love Story Review

Here’s my review for the film Sid and Aya: Not a Love Story starring Anne Curtis and Dingdong Dantes. Its also directed by Irene Villamor

The film explores the relationship between an insomniac stockbroker and a cute raketera as they share moments together, thanks to Sid’s weird business proposal that changes their lives forever.

The movie is good. I’m actually willing to run it by foreign movie reviewers and let it go against Hollywood dramas and romcoms. But wait, dont call “Sid and Aya” a romcom because its not. Sure you get the occassional snicker here and there but its a serious piece about life, love, decisions, business and gambling.

Hat tip to the main stars here as they definitely brought their A-Game for this film. Sure Dantes looked good (even when drunk and stressed) but the guy delivers solid acting here. You commisserate with him the moment his life spirals downward. You cheer for him the moment he is reunited with his lady and then you feel pangs of sadness in the last few moments of the movie.

Anne Curtis was high caliber here in “Sid and Aya” as she goes through a rollercoaster of emotions. She nails the “kalog” “raketera” role perfectly and still has room to show off a woman in love, conflicted with her emotions and at the end of the movie, a lady who has accepted what life has dealt her hand.

They weren’t lying when they marketed Sid and Aya as a non-love story because its more than that. Its about pain and acceptance and moving on. Its about learning to pick up the pieces of your heart after the girl you love, leaves you.

Hat tip to the cinematographers who made Star City look like a really great place to check out and to the musical directors for choosing the right tracks and scores for the right moments.

Sid and Aya Not a Love Story Verdict

10/10

Will watch again and highly recommended. Its interesting but not cheesy and thanks to great acting from Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis, we got a solid movie right here.

Do not let this movie pass you by. See it at least once.
