Naughty Dog showed off brand new content for their upcoming game, The Last of Us Part II; its actually The Last of Us Part II Gameplay Reveal Trailer and its filled to the brim with suspenseful moments bookended with Ellie’s new love life.

Present during the reveal are The Last of Us Part II’s writer and director Neil Druckmann, along with co-game directors Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau. In the trailer above we see that there’s a lot of time that has passed since the end of the first game where Joel decides to save Ellie and return to his brother in Jackson. Ellie’s grown up to be a tough gal and we even see her find new love. The action shifts to high gear amidst the kiss and we see that not only did they improve on the game’s visuals, we also see how much has changed when you control the character Ellie.

Just like in the previous game, Ellie still carries around her trusty bow and arrow and can now fire a gun as well. She’s still mainly a melee fighter. Interestingly enough for the combat mechanics, it seems like we can dodge enemy attacks making it tougher because the AI would probably give you hell.

No sign of Joel also here in this E3 2018 trailer but director Druckmann has stated for the record that Joel’s in Jackson and is still an active part of Ellie’s life. If it’s any consolation, we kinda did see Joel in the equally bloody and post-apocalyptic trailer 1.

The Last of Us Part II is coming out exclusively for the Playstation 4.
