Geoff Johns Steps Down as DC Comics Entertainment Chief

DC Comics’ Entertainment Chief Geoff Johns will be stepping down from his current role to focus on his new production company and help get DC Movies back in shape!

According to reports, the DC big guy will be stepping down to focus on creating movies through a deal he made with his new production outfit Mad Ghost Productions and DC Comics/ Warner Bros. Pictures. This means he would be able to touch projects that are being developed as well as work on existing DC films like Wonder Woman and Shazam!

His Mad Ghost Productions studio will also be responsible for developing and creating the planned Green Lantern Corps movie which may or may not tie in with the DCEU projects like Justice League and Wonder Woman.

On the comics end of things, Johns promises that he will still be working on several books including his current Doomsday Clock, his planned Three Jokers title, a Shazam title and another DC Comics title called “The Killing Zone” which focuses on lesser known DC characters.

Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group has this to say about Johns’ departure:

Geoff is a super talented writer and truly embedded in the DC Universe and its characters. We’re thrilled that he’s returning to his passion and his roots as a writer and producer. And, it’s even better that he’s staying in our Warner Bros. family. We look forward to working with him on ‘Green Lantern’ and other projects going forward.

Johns also gave a statement about his future endeavor and reasons for leaving his post in DC Comics:

I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters. I’m also excited to continue to work with the amazing team at DCE and my colleagues at Warner Bros.
