Reports: HEROTV to Close on January 31st 2018

Reports are coming in that anime-oriented cable channel HEROTV is set to make its final broadcast on January 31st 2018.

AnimePilipinas shared that the channel won’t be broadcasting anymore after 12 years on cable TV. On their post, they write:

ABS-CBN, the parent company of the two channels, decided to close them down due to lack of advertiser support

The channel has shown a lot of anime shows and was event progressively introducing fresh anime content from Japan including stuff like Food WarsShokugeki no Soma and Love Live! School idol project.

Also on the chopping block is ABS-CBN’s TAG; a channel that runs tagalized movies. It’s expected that the programming for TAG would fold into the network’s “Kapamilya Blockbusters”.

What I’m really sad about this whole closing (should it be true) is the fact that HEROTV was an ardent supporter of the local cosplay scene (no matter how cancerous and toxic) and helped shape the community in one form or another.

Again, until there’s no official word, let’s all file this under “Unconfirmed”.

Shoutouts too to the “Titos” of AnimePilipinas.com
