Will Hela Return in Phase 4?

One of the bigger questions that I asked when the cinema lights popped open during the press screening of Thor: Ragnarok was the final fate of Cate Blanchett’s Hela.

We’re going into SPOILER territory here so I have to summon my almighty SPOILER ALERT

So in the final minutes of the movie, Loki revives Surtur the Fire Demon in the hopes that he would be able to defeat Odin’s daughter Hela (Cate Blanchett). So while the two duked it out, Thor leads the remaining Asgardians aboard one of the huge ships Korg and Loki took from Grandmaster and Sakaar.

In true video game fashion, both Hela and Surtur use their full force and that blows up the Asgard that we know. Thor together with his court composed on Valkyrie, Korg, Hulk, Loki, Heimdall and Miek venture into space to look for a new place to call home.

Will Hela Return

I honestly think that this scene was written in because it provides a re-entry point for Blanchett’s character. For now, both the characters and the fans can assume that Surtur and Hela killed each other off or had been destroyed together with Asgard. Thing is, there was never a body shown onscreen. Just a big “Boom”.

Remember how they did the same thing for Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull who “perished” at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger?

While Weaving’s no longer interested in reprising his role, his character “lives” somewhere in the nine realms. This means if Marvel Studios wanted to bring back ‘Skull into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they can easily do so thanks to the story.

Where Could Hela Fit In?

Most probably the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. She could be a great Thanos-level baddie that comes to Earth after Avengers 4. Kevin Feige hasn’t failed us (that much) so its safe to assume that her re-emergence in the MCU could be timed with the appearance of the next generation of heroes living in the MCU.

She could also play as the central villain (if Marvel deems it) for Thor 4; there Thor could get a rematch from his older sister. Plus payback too for him *spoiler* losing an eye *spoiler end* at the end of the movie.
