Meet the Monsters for Universal’s Dark Universe

So before you catch The Mummy this week, we’re doing a post to introduce the monsters that will appear in this shared cinematic universe.

So remember those Universal Monster movies from days gone by? The same monsters they were trying to sell in the age of comic book movies? Well its kind of promising but it still needs tweaking.

Here are the main monsters you need to know about.

Bela Lugosi as Dracula

For non movie fans Bela Lugosi as Dracula was what they remember or identify the most. No one has been attached to the Dark Universe version of Dracula.

Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster

The same goes for Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster. Heck the electrodes on the sides of his neck had been used and overused by Hollywood. Even Hotel Transylvania uses this type of design.

Frankenstein was such a huge hit when it was released that they tried a sequel and thus we have Bride of Frankenstein which also starred Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster and Elsa Lanchester as the Bride.

Another classoc Boris Karloff role was playing the titular mummy in The Mummy.

There’s also Claude Rain’s Invisible Man which was a movie based on the H.G. Wells novel of the same title.

We’ve got a lot of different werewolves in cinema but none can be as iconic as the Wolfman, as played by Lon Chaney Jr.

Rounding up this roll call is the Creature from the Black Lagoon who according to “The Mummy” director and writer Alex Kurtzman hails from South America, the Amazon to be exact.

Other notables, as listed by various sources including Wikipedia:

Quasimodo, the Hunchback of Notre Dame

Lon Chaney as the Universal’s Phantom of the Opera
