Marvel Just Trademarked the Term “Marvel Rising”

Comicbook.com recently ran a story that I want to shadow in as well. It’s about Marvel trademarking the term Marvel Rising.

According to the article, Marvel had applied for trademarks for the term Marvel Rising for various stuff ranging from games to shirts and apparel. There’s not enough details to go by but it certainly looks like Marvel is preparing something or at the very preparing to get some protection from copyright infringements.

Here’s the thing though, it seems like Marvel is hellbent on getting the whole “Legacy” branding down pat, seeing how its working well for the Distinguished Competition is killing it in terms of sales the past few month. That’s thanks to their own initiative called DC Rebirth which saw the renumbering of important books like Action Comics and Detective Comics. We’re also hoping that we’ll be getting more of ‘Legacy’ as well as more ‘Generations’ down the road.

But then again we can also see this trademarking as a sign that Marvel’s coming out with a new game. Could be for mobile or for the mobile or a full-fledged Marvel title similar to the upcoming Spider-Man game.

Going back to comics, Marvel Rising could also be the title of a new banner ala “Dark Reign” or “Heroic Age” from years ago…

I hardly doubt Marvel would actually cover a lot of bases copyright and trademark-wise just to sell T-Shirts and apparel. It seems unlikely but there’s always a first time for everything.

So what do you guys think? What’s your take on Marvel Rising? Is it a game? a new comic book? a new title? Leave a comment below and let’s talk more about this.
