Tom Hardy Reportedly to Star in Sony’s Venom
The Hollywood Reporter shares the news that “Mad Max” and “Revenant” star Tom Hardy is in final negotiations to star in the Spider-Man spinoff film Venom together with director Ruben Fleischer who directed the film “Zombieland”.
Hardy, who had previously played Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road as well as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has shown that he can play physically demanding roles and still deliver the necessary gravitas.
Meanwhile, its not sure whether he’ll be playing the role of disgruntled photographer Eddie Brock or the long-time Spider-Man fan Flash Thompson for the untitled spinoff Venom movie.
Eddie Brock’s Venom (2017)
Hardy admittedly is a Brock fan so that may just be the case. Also you have to note that the writers for the Venom movie, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, are also saying that it would be Eddie Brock that would be appearing in the movie, and they should know, they wrote the script for Marc Webb’s “Amazing Spider-Man 2” which already planted seeds for the Sinister Six before everything fell apart.
Sony Pictures is currently working together with Marvel Studios to release and promote the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Word on the street is that after a supposed sequel for Homecoming, Spider-man will return to Sony Pictures. Till then, the studio is playing nice with Marvel, who will also feature Peter Parker prominently in the Russo Brothers’ “Avengers: Infinity War”.
Venom on the other hand will only appear for the second time in the big screen. His first movie appearance was in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 where he was played by Topher Grace. He has made several appearances in other mediums but its still the Spider-Man 3 that made him a big thing among Spidey’s rogues gallery.
Oh and after the “Venom” movie, it looks like Sony is also pushing through with their solo Silver Sable movie although that project won’t move till next year according to rumors.
