The Preacher TV Series will Feature Tom Cruise as a Scientology Preacher

CBR reports that there was a big cameo in the pilot episode of the TV adaptation of Garth Ennis’ PREACHER and it comes in the form of Tom Cruise.

Preacher’s pilot episode was screened in today’s SXSW festival and featured Cruise in a surprise cameo role. In his short but sweet appearance, Cruise’s scene was described as address the Church of Scientology, with a big crowd and then exploding.

Yes, he effing explodes.

Cruise was apparently taken out by a mysterious force from outer space and its up to series star Dominic Cooper to save the day.

What doesn’t surprise me here is the tone, which is exceptionally violent, gritty and dark but is given a sense of humor thanks to executive producers Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen who were also involved in another project with dark humor and religious overtones, THIS IS THE END.

Starring Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sherriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface, “Preacher” debuts Sunday, May 22 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
